About St. Timothy's Church

We are a Total Ministry

Congregation

At St. Timothy’s we believe in and practice Baptismal Ministry — a fancy phrase for remembering that at baptism we are all committed to worshiping together, persevering in resisting evil, proclaiming the gospel, seeking and serving Christ in all persons, loving our neighbor as ourselves, and striving for justice and peace among all people and respecting the dignity of every human being.   This commitment is both as individuals and as a congregation.   We live into this concept of ministry by each exercising our individual gifts in a way that enables the whole community to respond to God’s expectations for all of us.

We are self-supporting and supportive of one another.   The business of the congregation is run by a Vestry, and the spiritual growth of the congregation is guided by clergy and lay persons responsible for facilitating worship, pastoral care, and fellowship.

We are a Eucharistic Community

We center our worship around the Eucharist — sometimes called the Holy Communion, the Lord’s Supper, or the Mass.   It is worship instituted by Jesus Christ, and continued in an unbroken tradition of 2000 years.

We are a Joyful Community

We believe that our Christian life together is supposed to be a joyful life together.   We enjoy fellowship with one another, and we welcome visitors into our midst with even more joy.   Our special love is children.   They are the future of each family, the future of our world, and the future of our church.   They are always welcome.

  • A PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING FOR THE NATION

Almighty God, giver of all good things: We thank you for the natural majesty and beauty of this land. They restore us, though we often destroy them.

    Heal us.

We thank you for the great resources of this nation. They make us rich, though we often exploit them.

    Forgive us.

We thank you for the men and women who have made this country strong. They are models for us, though we often fall short of them.

    Inspire us.

We thank you for the torch of liberty which has been lit in this land. It has drawn people from every nation, though we have often hidden from its light.

    Enlighten us.

We thank you for the faith we have inherited in all its rich variety. It sustains our life, though we have been faithless again and again.

    Renew us.

Help us, O Lord, to finish the good work here begun. Strengthen our efforts to blot out ignorance and prejudice, and to abolish poverty and crime. And hasten the day when all our people, with many voices in one united chorus, will glorify your holy Name. Amen.

  • WHEN DO WE RE-GATHER?

    WHEN DO WE RE-GATHER?

We are watching the statistics, but re-gathering will be no sooner than July 19th, possibly even later, depending on the circumstances.

One definite thing is that there will be no re-gathering until a written plan, addressing all elements of the re-gathering, is approved by the Vestry and submitted to the Office of the Bishop. A re-gathering committee, chaired by Sr. Warden Ted Fryer, is working on that plan. We are planning to continue on-line videos of the service for those who cannot attend. The detailed plan will be sent out to all of our mailing list so everyone can see how we will maintain safe space, standards of cleanliness.

    God Bless! Fr. John

  • Prayers for the Nation

We offer these prayers for your use in this time of national crisis

O God, you have bound us together in a common life. Help us, in the midst of our struggles for justice and truth, to confront one another without hatred or bitterness, and to work together with mutual forbearance and respect; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Grant, O God, that your holy and life-giving Spirit may so move every human heart [and especially the hearts of the people of this land], that barriers which divide us may crumble, suspicions disappear, and hatreds cease; that our divisions being healed, we may live in justice and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Heavenly Father, in your Word you have given us a vision of that holy City to which the nations of the world bring their glory: Behold and visit, we pray, the cities of this nation. Renew the ties of mutual regard which form our civic life. Send us honest and able leaders. Enable us to eliminate poverty, prejudice, and oppression, that peace may prevail with righteousness, and justice with order, and that men and women from different cultures and with differing talents may find with one another the fulfillment of their humanity; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Look with pity, O heavenly Father, upon the people in this land who live with injustice, terror, disease, and death as their constant companions. Have mercy upon us. Help us to eliminate our cruelty to these our neighbors. Strengthen those who spend their lives establishing equal protection of the law and equal opportunities for all. And grant that every one of us may enjoy a fair portion of the riches of this land; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Almighty God, who has given us this good land for our heritage: We humbly beseech you that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of your favor and glad to do your will. Bless our land with honorable industry, sound learning, and pure manners. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion; from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way. Defend our liberties, and fashion into one united people the multitudes brought here out of many races, nationalities and tongues. Endue with the spirit of wisdom those to whom in your Name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that, through obedience to your law, we may show forth your praise among the nations of the earth. In the time of prosperity, fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the day of trouble, suffer not our trust in you to fail; all which we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
